Linux is superior. Or not. by CynicalRyan2007-07-25 10:29:23

People expect their computers to just work. If the wireless card in their computer does not appear to work, what are they more likely to blame - the drivers for the wireless card, the OS, or the computer (and its manufacturer) at large?

Some people are incapable of making these distinctions, and the fate of Linux distributions as widespread operating systems still requires work in some cases on the 'just works' front. Wireless connectivity still appears to be one of the points where better driver interaction with the currently available front-end software (NetworkManager and the like) would help things significantly.

Don't get me wrong - I'm one of those people who doesn't mind getting in there and tinkering when things don't work. But some areas could still use a lot of work.
