Who is to blame? Linus, RMS and Novell, for making a non-superior OS, or the device manufacturer who failed to deliver proper drivers?

Have you tried to contact the manufacturer about this? The problem is obviously the driver not communicating correctly with the hardware, and that is THEIR fault, not Linux'.

There are OSS drivers out there for a myriad of products. That is an astonishing result of the OSS movement. Out of the box (that is: without the need for driver-CDs and a internet connection) Linux usually works far better than Windows does. Add to that the fact that the out-of-the-box drivers on Windows are usually made by the hardware manufacturer and you can argue that Linux is, in fact, superior.

Rant on please :-) I'd love to hear different views on this.

(DISCLAIMER: I'm a FreeBSD addict who recently migrated to openSUSE. I hate (I repeat: hate) Windows, for many reasons)
