Granted, that was 3-4 weeks ago, but it's usually less than regular in the summer and more than premium in the winter.

It's true that old diesel engines are not particularly friendly to the environment, but with the new ULSD the 2007 and newer diesels have emissions that are comparable to gas engines. And the diesels still get better mileage.
