Manager: Jim, I've got a task for you [in preparation for the move]. For servers that have multiple NICs, we've already determined that NIC1 will be going to this port on this patch panel, and NIC2 will be going to that port on that patch panel, but what we forgot to do is the NICs that go to the DMZ. So I need you to figure out which NICs go to the DMZ and tell me which one that is for each server.

Me: Ok, by what method have we been determining if a NIC is NIC1, NIC2, or NIC3?

Manager: *blink* . . . You would ask that question, wouldn't you?

Turns out, they've been done arbitrarily. :-D
