So, no breaks? Or do you have to leave the bldg? ( (n/t) by kelli2172007-07-25 06:53:40
Generally speaking... by SQLRat 2007-07-25 07:17:25
When working on projects where highly compartmentalized security is required, the contractor has a concern where classified materials may wander beyond the workspace where they are to be strictly housed.
A common break area is usually not provided or it is highly restricted against in order to mitigate any complacency on the part of the employees to take classified materials with them to the break area. If this happened, then there would be a possibility of these materials being left on a table mistakenly, or over-the-shoulder browsing, or even espionage.
One must always consider "need to know" in such environments. Just because everyone is an employee doesn't mean they all have the necessary "need" to see other classified projects or materials.
I have worked in places where there were several projects going on at the same time in the same building. Each had it's own cypher locked workspace. The doors simply had numbers on them along with the obligatory security stickers identifying the secure nature of the facility. The only doors I could open where the ones I was permitted into. I never did see what the other rooms were doing.
In most of these projects, I have seen where each workarea has it's own "internal" break area where coffee and/or snacks are provided. There was usually one person on the team that was assigned the extra duty of stocking the internal break area. I can't say the other workspaces were like that, but I am going to assume that is the case.
If a person is a smoker, they generally have to go outside somewhere which means going through more than one annoying security post. Needless to say, most people who work in such environments end up quitting the smoking habit.
