And somewhere else, Jesus says something along the lines of after his death Peter filling the void left by him / taking care of the keys of heaven.
Point being, Peter was the first 'pope'; and when he died, they found somebody else. Et cetera, ad Benedictam.
I don't know to what extent this is a 'ret-con', mind you --- but it does show that the Catholic church does have Bible passages with which it justifies its doctrine. (Then again, if you look for one you'll find one. The Bible is that kind of book.)
By the bye: I couldn't even find a reference to Christianity in the Bible. Nothing straight from the horse's mouth, at least. It seems a bit of an apostolic invention --- but then again, we *do* take their word as gospel. ;-) |
