How would Sherlock Holmes fare by hadji 2007-07-10 18:21:37
with modern detectives? How accurate was his portrayal in contrast to detectives of his own time?

Doyle's portrayal was that most (not all, but most) detectives of the time were bumblers, and Holmes was quite the exceptional mind. Is this how it really was?

Modern forensics is almost frighteningly advanced, but how do the reasoning and deductive skills of modern detectives rate? Generally speaking, are today's detectives bumblers, adequately average, or could they give Holmes a run for his money?
