Answers:
- I know what a soldering iron is, and I have replaced capasitators on motherboards. (And it worked!)
- I REALLY want to learn about programming microcontrollers. (Haven't gotten around to it though...)
- What do you mean? I've got a laptop, and I'm the servicetech who decides if any error is covered by warranty or not.. (Seriously, I have USB-RS232 adapters, and native RS232+LPT via dockinglist. And some older hardware as well, so.. "yes")
- "Expertise" might be a strech.. I enjoy playing around with VB, and feel that I've risen above "Novice"
- I intend to use XP pro, Vista or 2003 Server..

Portability is not a big issue for me either, as this will be part of my house.

Oh, and could you define "pricey" ?
