Imagine your complete political opposite. Someone who despises everything you believe in, and who would love nothing more than to make your life hell. Now give them the unfettered power to spy on your every conversation, search your house, freeze your assets, even throw you in jail on NOTHINHG more than a personal whim, and provide you and your family absolutely no ability to challenge these acts. If you are willing, right now, and without objection or condition, to surrender these rights, then there is no problem. Of course you've just voluntarily entered into slavery, but hey, what's the big deal about losing freedom, we obviously weren't using it anyway.

Or is the Patriot Act only to be used by Republicans? Democrats obviouly can't be trusted with such power, since they never care about national security. I guess we'll just have to have a signing staement on January 20 2009 repealing the whole thing if Hillary or Obama wins. Heck, let's just solve all the problems at once. Forget the elections, and install Bush as President-for-Life, since he's the only one who can truly be trusted to do anything right. It will certainly streamline government after we get rid of those pesky legislative and judicial branches. Of course, we will have to figure out what to do with that new fourth branch of the government known as the Vice-President's office. But I'm sure someone will thing of something.
