Also known as sticking your head in the sand.

How many casualties are you willing to accept? How many countries are you willing to allow these people to overrun while we sit on our thumbs?

I do agree with one of your points. Show everything that these people do in the press. It will have not an effect on their actions, but it would radically change the perception that the main stream has about our actions and the need for our actions.

King earned the respect of the general populace of the US with his actions. Gandhi earned the respect of his people and the British people though his actions. Without that respect they would never have accomplished anything. In the Middle East we are dealing with a culture that does not and will not respect non-violence. To accomplish anything you have to earn the respect of the people, and to do that requires strength and necessary violence.

This "war" has been going on since just after WWII (this time around). We have made sitting on our thumbs and doing nothing about it an art form. The west has absorbed attack after attack and rarely took any meaningful action to stop them. While not every thing the Bush administration has done is correct or perfect, at least they are finally trying to do something about it. The real problem is that we are holding back, not that we are being too harsh.
