Pretty much like protestants and catholics in the US. Or at least as well as black and white :-)

It was the opportunity created by the US invasion that started an escalating spiral of violence. And the US has until now been powerless to stop it. I don't see any evidence of an ability to stop it in the near future either.

The Kurds are a different matter; and so is their relationship with Turkey. There is less sectarian violence in the Kurdish part of Iraq - but the longer the occupation continues the more it seems to be drawn into the general chaos. Possibly there is enough local order that it won't be necessary to arm the Kurds?
