The point is that the troops are being accepted, which in my opinion is a good thing.

I see nowhere in that article or in what I said that hinted that the troops were trying to be seen as a tribe. That was something the author of the article used to describe the way the troops were being accepted, *like* a tribe. You or someone else posted an article a long while back that said something along the lines of "...for the troops to be accepted they will have to take up some of the ways of the people there..." Does this not show some of that happening?

I do not think the U.S., or the other coalition troops, wants to be a tribe there but you have to start somewhere. If they know what a tribe is and they view the troops as "something like a tribe" that will be a start in the right direction for peace. If that will let the coalition troops leave sooner and allow them to run their country totally on their own sooner, then it is a good thing.
