All you need is any type of switch for the input. Pins 2,3 and 5 will do the trick.

You will need a relay for the output.

One problem is that very few computers have more than one serial port these days. But you're in luck! One or two port serial cards are cheap.

It's the eight or sixteen port ones that put a dent in your wallet.
