if by "that" you mean "break up in person" - it would likely have left each person with less questions for other people afterwards. There is a whole LOT of subtext that happens in non-verbal communication that simply cannot be communicated in an email or over the phone.

Plus, if there really HAS been an investment in time and emotion in an actual relationship, the people involved deserve to say goodbye face-to-face. Closure is more difficult otherwise.

A religious experience (if that's in fact what it was) can't be "discussed ahead of time" because that's not how it works. And I was discussing the specifics of breaking up on the phone. I never called the fellow shallow. I called "bad form" on him for not ending it in person.
