Okay, "never make absolute statements," sure, so replace "all" with "the vast majority," which is the meaning commonly intended, and, politically correct or not, it is very accurate. At least from the vast majority of the news I've seen. I get most of my information from the public news, generally in news papers, on the Internet, or occasionally on TV (THAT's where the real tripe is, in my opinion). What percentage of terrorists acts have you heard of in the news for the last decade or more that were by some other group? Sure there are some--obviously "all" was incorrect, but relatively few.
Next game, try replacing "terrorist" with "suicide bombers." Then you may not even have to change "all." I may not have scoured every news article written, but I try to keep up with the headlines, and I do not recall ever hearing of a suicide bomber from any other group. Of course I may have missed some, but not many.
The connotation may be cruel and degrading, but that does not make the denotation inaccurate, just tactless.
That said, I did think the Psychology Today article was severely lacking in backup for its statements, many of which seemed suspiciously arbitrary. |
