People change. That's Life. Deal with it.
She has the right to change her (religious/sexual proclivity) beliefs & the right to expect the person she shares her life with to respect / honor / also believe in them.
He has the right to say "Sorry, you're no longer the same person I originally fell in love with, I wish you well in your life" and move on.
Turn the tables - what if HE had been the one to have the religious epiphany & decide not to have sex? Would that make her "shallow" for not wanting the religious aspect into the relationship? (Since it was either very low-level to almost non-existent in the relationship prior to the epiphany.)
Or, to put it in another light, replace the religious aspect with drugs. What if he started doing them & she decided to dump him over it? Would that make her "shallow" for not wanting to deal with the new aspect of the relationship with him?
It boils down to she changed the basic foundation of the relationship & he chose not to continue under the new rules.
That doesn't make him shallow, it merely means he no longer found the relationship to be mutually rewarding & he did the right thing by being forthright about it to her.
"Sorry $Name, but the new $Aspect wasn't part of the original relationship & I don't think I can accept the new relationship with $Aspect as part of it. I think it's in our own best interests to seek others with whom we might better fit."
Where $Aspect can be drugs, drinking, a sudden interest in lethal sports, religion / cult, politics, or anything else where there can be a diametric opposition thereof, thus rendering a relationship nearly impossible.
That's not shallow, that's honesty at its core. |
