Gah, Stupid Speedbumps of Damage-Your-Car by jayfarm 2007-07-09 15:08:33
So I come back from vacation to find that there is a rather poorly designed speedbump blocking the road to our complex. When I say blocking, I mean it is sharply (and cheaply) made, so it's more like a speed-trapazoid. If I go over it at much over 2 mph (aka, slipping the clutch to creep over it) I can easily have it bonk my cat.

I'm not much in the mood to replace a performance exhaust I just put on because of someone's speedbump idea (and poor implementation) so I stop by the management office. They tell me it's not their idea, they don't like them, and it's the other compound that's the problem.

So I wander over there and just ask if they are responsible for the new speed bumps. She tells me it's because I'm a reckless driver who is going to kill a child or elderly person. I tell her I'm not, but that wasn't the question, and she finally says she is the one who had them put in. I explain my situation, and ask who picked the location and design of this particular speed bump, as if it was moved about 10 feet either way it wouldn't be nearly so bad (just 2 feet down from the crest of the hill). Even if it were of a different (not sharp-edged) design it would be better.

She tells me it's my problem, not hers. I explain that I would like to know the address of their legal council so I can send them a letter stating that any damage to my vehicle will result in a claim against their property insurance. She tells me she doesn't have that information, but if I send the letter to her she'll make sure to pass it on.

So a letter will shortly be on it's way to the management company in NY who owns the big property, as she's a rather rude person who doesn't want to engage in any sort of discussion.

I imagine that getting a certified letter to the head office will at least garner a response to the concern, since I'm sure that she didn't believe I'd follow up on it and was just blowing steam.

Gah, stupid uppity management types who think they are never wrong.

Oh, and as an aside, she said they had a problem with people cutting through their parking lots from our complex, but now the only non-speedbump'd path is a serpintine course through their lot.

It just doesn't seem legal that she can just put up speed bumps on the ONLY driveway into or out of our complex, effectively holding our vehicles hostage to her whims.

Frustrated Jay
