To build on this one... by VonRotnKoln 2007-07-09 15:03:52
Welcome to a wonderful new world. Find a street near you that has at least one good sized flower garden. I used to drive a set path home from work every day during the spring because of a chain-link fence that was covered in honeysuckle.

I was told some time ago "If something surprises you while riding, it's your own fault." After riding for close to 20 years now (my first license had an M on it) I can honestly say that this one piece of advice has kept me alive. It doesn't matter if its road debris, drunk drivers, kids playing or mechanical trouble with the bike. Raise your awareness and know your machine. Learn to tune it PROPERLY yourself and follow the checklist before each ride. VSE (Visual Scan of Extremities) becomes second nature when you know your bike.

Other than that, most advice on handling and road usage would depend on the type of bike. Bullet bikes use the rider's body position for handling more than other styles. Cruisers (hogs, low-riders, choppers, etc) need the rider's body to stay in line with the bike's body for handling.
