As a safety officer at work, I noticed that ALL the women that fell down the stairs (with 2 banisters and anti-skid grit on the treads) were not wearing "sensible shoes". I'm sorry but only an idiot will try descend a staircase wearing 10cm (4 inch) stilettos. Needless to say, there was almost a riot when I suggested that we add to the company dress-code policy, limiting the height of a heel to 6cm. sigh Fashion vs pain. No contest.
