...that the rich should pay more because they do not "need" the money as much as the working class do. It would logically follow that the spouse of a wealthy person does not "need" that extra bit of money as much, and therefore not "need" the job as badly.

I do not think anyone here is arguing that we should tax a fixed dollar amount per person.

The percentage of income you give us as your "fair share" should not be any different if it's your first "taxable" dollar, or your millionth. You can argue what that portion should be, but apply it to the secretary the same as the CEO. Both get the same exemption, both pay the same rate.
