The hysteria in the absence of facts is pretty irritating.

BTW thanks to lab_rat's post, I did some reading on pardons, and the Marc Rich one in particular, and as always, there's much more to the story that one might think. Very often when it comes to "white collar crime" such pardons represent a strategic shift in the approach to sorting out complex corporate and personal issues. The criminal system often makes it difficult (politically) to back down on criminal procedings in order to go after things in civil court. The president has the stature to take the heat on such things, and this sounds very much like what happened w/ Marc Rich.

It's clear to me that Bush feels that Libby's treatment was heavily influenced by broad discontent with his administration, even though he certainly can't list that as a reason for the clemency. He's got a point there; in some circles we are approaching a witch hunt. Eh Peace Man?
