| Regarding this thread, I got an answer back from Canada Post, which reads: "Prior Notice is now required for every food type shipment intended for consumption in the United States. Food for both humans and animals is included. All food type shipments, regardless of its value, sold or sent as a gift, will require a United States Customs entry Prior Notice and approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before the item leaves Canada. Any food type package sent to the U.S.A. that does not bear a pre-approved FDA confirmation number will be returned to the sender at the sender's expense. If there is no return address, the item will be destroyed. Excluded from the Prior Notice rule is food made or purchased by an individual in his/her personal residence in Canada and sent by that individual as a personal gift to an individual in the U.S.A. Any gift item that does not meet these criteria is subject to the Prior Notice rule. So it looks like I could send you some jam, since I made it myself in my own home and would be sending it as a personal gift. If you really want some, send your address to my nick at the gmail place.
