Saying "they're both guilty of lying" is, in context, the same as saying "The kid who steals a candy bar is the same as the guy who steals the Crown Jewels -- They're both stealing".

A conviction of contempt of court does not equal a conviction of perjury, even if they're for the same thing.

Now, if you want to say "They were both lying", sure, absolutely. I agree with you there one hundred percent. However, "They were both convicted of lying" requires a qualifier to establish context because the contexts involved, and the legal levels involved are very different.

Yes, a kid who steals a candy bar is stealing, and a guy who steals the Crown Jewels is stealing, but they're not even close to being the same crime.
