If Bush simply wanted to shield Scooter from punishment why did he not grant a full pardon? Why did he let the conviction stand? Why did he let all the other punishments stand? He doesn't need a reelection. If he felt it would have been unpopular, he could have taken the hit.
But he didn't. If he had granted a full pardon, I might agree with you. But he didn't.
Also, if it was common for people to serve their sentences immediately instead of pending appeal, I might agree with you. But it isn't.
You can't take one isolated fact and make a case out of it. You have to take it all, in full context, and make a balanced argument. |
