to a select few of those followers. Moses was alone when he saw the burning bush. He disappeared for weeks and returned with the ten commandments. In Numbers 9, the pillar stops for days or months, causing the Israelites to stop. It sounds like they're following something, but not being led by it. The Israelites complained during the trip, which doesn't sound like something they'd do if they were really convinced a mighty, smiting God was watching them.
Presumably God also spoke privately to Noah to build about the flood, seeing as how no one believed him.
The promised land was where God promised Abraham that his descendants would live. When the Israelites moved to Egypt, the Canaanites moved to the now vacant Palestine. I'm not sure how they could have been reasonably kept out; even today people fight to live in the only country in the Middle East without oil. |
