| Had a weird dream last night: |

Before I describe it, I should preface: I am not a math or chemistry major. I don't work in a lab of any kind. I've never done FFT analysis, so I have no technical point of reference.
Also, I don't consider myself a violent person. In any previous dreams where I happened to get violent enough to hit someone, the punches would all land softly with no damage done, even though I would swing with all my might.
And I have no idea what a Leyden jar is.
The dream:
I was in a math/science lab (with computer stations off to one side and chemistry tables off to another) when a co-worker asked me to come up with an easy way to do a Fast Fourier Transform on a complex wave - by hand. I told him I'd try but, as far as I knew FFT analysis required a computer and plotters, pointing to said equipment at the far end of the room where a group of people were doing FFT analysis. He insisted it could be done.
So, never having done FFT analysis, I called up a friend and asked his opinion. He said it'd be tough, but it could be done. I gave him the first value and he calculated the differential. I filled in that value on a grid I had made. Numerous calculations later, my co-worker came back and was furious at my progress, telling me that it had to be more simple than that. "It's just V(out)/V(in)!!" he barked.
Exasperated by his criticism, I grabbed him by the front of his shirt, threw him up against a chemistry bench and smashed a Leyden jar across his face. Hard. Needless to say, his face was a bloody mess and the next "scene" of the dream showed him in the hospital surrounded by his family.
Normally, I'm pretty good with dream interpretation. I'm a little concerned about the violence of this particular dream. My dreams have always been very detailed, but to actually dream of objects that I don't use and of which I have no knowledge is pretty strange. (Answers.com got a work-out this morning.) What confused me even more is that I actually get along pretty well with the guy I hospitalized. |
