in the way he deems correct; but what he wants and what he allows people to do may be different. I don't see this as being contrary to free will - only if God enforced what he wants would this have denied free will. I don't see "getting away with it" as a necessary part of free will either.

What's the difference between a "punishment" and a "consequence"? Knowledge that there would be consequences seems to have been there should have been sufficient to allow them to make a free decision.

Again, we're discussing this as if it were literal truth: I hope I've made it clear that I don't see this to be the case.
