I thought that too, until by jaqie 2007-07-03 07:35:00
until I tried the retail (non beta)version.
it seems that itll be very nice in a couple years when it's nothing to our PCs to run it, like XP is now.

Just like hardware, I tend to sit one or two model series' behind the cutting edge. when Vista was in beta, I finally switched from 2000 to xp, it was well worth it. I bet Ill do the same once they come out with whatever replaces Vista. I do not use XP as my only OS however, ive got a daemon, several penguins, and a few specialty OSes here as well (palmOS I believe, and VXworks)

I myself have 2x512MB PC3200 DDR sticks of kingston in my box (this machine I did what you are doing now, two years ago, right down to the athlon x2, so it's the s939 version). Feel free to get the 2x512MB but realize that a lot of games are starting to bog on 1GB even in XP right now. HL2EP1, for example, the loadtimes go faster when I take the 2x256MB out of my server and stick em in this box as well as my 2x512MB.

Then again, I tend to heavily multitask and have run myself out of ram horribly on many occasions - and on CPU - which is why I got the dual core when they were $350ish and brand new for the bottom of the line x2 3800+.
