Download the sources for apache2 and php5 (that you can do with apt-get), and compile the apps with the same prefixes as the original compile. Otherwise, you'll invite all kinds of fun and headache. Lesson: Placing applications that require frequent upgrades in non-standard locations, makes upgrading a manual process.
