(artificial insemination), you can get far more offspring from a bull than would be possible via live cover. It also makes it fairly easy for my herd to contain offspring of champions without having to ship animals for breeding. Shipping semen or embryos is much cheaper. Of course, these advances also mean the gene pool narrows some as breeders focus on a smaller group of top producing animals for breeding stock. Discovering a genetic disease years into a breeding program can be devastating.
