Ive had it up to HERE *stands up and puts her hand as far above her 6'2" head as she can* with all brands of NICs except intel, even 3Com. Even though I still run a D link DSS-5+ 10/100 switch, I am never buying less then an intel pro/1000GT again, because ive had so much pain and agony over the other brands... everything from BSoDs to no drivers for 64 bit OSes to flakiness and corrupted files to... *starts ranting under her breath clearly on the edge of her temper*
Anyways, I used to do what you did with the mobos... but the industry changed. all that matters now is the chipset (ok much more then it used to). Get an nvidia based chipset with all the features you want, and go with a no-frills mobo and you'll be pleased to no end, especially with saving that much cash for a better CPU or more RAM. Easily, money spent better somewhere else... and think about it, you arent going dual video cards right now, in the future itll be the same thing, replacing the mobo (and possibly more) and wont have the cash for it again. Truly, if you don't get the whole kit now don't go for it, spend the cash somewhere else. |
