I'm moving from Pittsburgh, PA to Pasadena, CA. Rent here is around 4 times the price. At the rent rates out there, it's only a little more expensive to get a 30 year mortgage, in terms of monthly price (since I've got savings for a down-payment). Since I can continue to stay with my inlaws for arbitrarily long while looking for a place (can != want to) that's probably what I'll end up doing...
