Chicks is a special type of women: superficial, loud, dumb, stressing, nerving. Like chicken. Women which nobody wants to have around except people who are as superficial and/or dumb as these women. So, calling a woman chick is clearly an insult. The question would be if you are serious in calling a women like that, or if it's a greeting from pal to pal.
