It's impossible to replace a file on windows if you insist on *not* shutting down your word processor or spreadsheet or whatever program, as shadowsystems does. If those programs have the file open, you're screwed: either you have to shut down the program, or you have to reboot (which shuts down the program). There's no getting around that.

Whether you like it or not is another issue. But don't blame it on the person who wrote the installer; they can't do anything about it.
