What would more likely happen: there would be 2-3 weeks of argument in the papers, worldwide, over whether this was true or a hoax.
Scientists would demand to study it; the US government might allow that, or refuse it 'in the interest of national security'.
Other nations would either congratulate the world that alien contact had been made, or lambast the US for messing it up, or dismiss it all as a hoax. They might request/demand that the technology would be shared, but ultimately it would be up to the US whether or not it shared; either way, they'd present the others with a fait accompli.
As for the bit about religious leaders and nuclear war: that's straight from cuckoo-land. They'd either dismiss it all, or accept it. They don't even *have* nukes to trigger a nuclear war with, so don't even pretend that they could --- and besides, they wouldn't want to.
For that matter, I remain unconvinced that the Cold War involved "share, or else" ultimata. |
