Stupid installers. by Phoon2007-07-01 01:40:39
Or that they don't want to restart at all? by Michiel2007-07-01 02:00:07
A simple, "It won't work until you restart", by Phoon2007-07-01 02:02:28
I love it when they say that... by shadowsystems 2007-07-01 02:25:11
...and it turns out the only reason WHY they say it is because they've tried to set an auto-run entry in the Registry.
Oh, I'm sorry, but I blocked that when Spybot asked me if I wanted to allow it to happen.
["Soup Nazi" voice] Bad program, no auto-run for you! [/Soup Nazi]
Then you launch the program & it runs just fine.
Yeah, "reboot THIS!" [rude hand gesture] =)P
Of course, the ones that force a reboot (don't ask, just DO) are the ones I promptly uninstall & fire off a wicked email to their creator - something along the lines of "Thank you forcing that reboot & killing a file download I've been waiting THREE DAYS to finish from a server that does NOT allow re-starting! May your name earn eternal damnation from every ISP on the planet & become a household synonym for explosive diarrhea. You Are Teh SUCK!"
A quick uninstall, Registry clean, and aggressively removing any and ALL traces of such scumware from my system ensues.
I don't care WHO you think you are, yon programmer, it's MY computer and *I* determine when it reboots.
Don't make me hunt you down and beat the FPB out of you with a UPS & my uptime logs.
=D
