If you go to advanced, you have more choice on the cost of more decision, and you need to have more knowledge of what you have and what you want. Gentoo is a very advanced, very user oriented system - but not in the way of "put in and it runs", more in the way of "decide what you want, and do it, there's nothing that can hinder you except a bit of work and time". Maintaining a Gentoo system is not for beginners, though.
