"Look, I'm interested, but I think this might be worth more than a thousand bucks. So why don't we try to sell it and split the profit?" Depending on the source though, a good friend is worth more that those 9k :) With a 'business' source I'd be tempeted to do it. But probably point out the above. With a stranger on the internet (ok, can they be that trusted?), well though luck for them not researching. :)
