What I would do afterward would depend on the source's financial state. If he was well off, I'd sell it and keep the money. If he was in need, I'd sell it and give him all the profit. In the latter case, the reason I'd still buy it and sell it for him is that the question implies that I better know the value of the document, and I better know the market for it. And my condition under which I would do this would indicate that I'm not desperate. These three factors would make me a better negotiator for a higher selling price.
