The counterargument is that the item is a mere reminder of evil that once existed, and reminders of such are a good thing. On the other hand, most collectors don't collect for the good of humanity; most collect because they are fascinated by the subject. If sold to a collector don't expect the item to end up in a museum or other location where it could be used to educate. It's more likely it'll end up in some wealthy collector's vault somewhere, never to see the light of day until it is resold.
