The point is would you buy it for a $1,000 and leave it at that or would you tell the trusted source that he could get at least $10,000 for it.

I don't think I could buy it for $1,000 knowing that it is really worth much more. I would ask the source if he knows the value of what he is selling and if he didn't I would tell him what it might be worth.
