that "picture nr 2" from the above link has worked often enough.
Opening the trap pipe isn't always easy, though.
In a sink: unscrew from above
O : and do the mechanical un-plugging BEFORE you pour in the caustic soda, or the sulfuric acid. They DO unclog some types of plugs, but if they don't, you end up with a dagerous and hurtful mixture where you now should put your hands.
I found, too, that a fairly safe "unclogger" works with sodium bicarbonate and vinegar. Works better if you've waited long enough for exess water to be "gone at last" :
Prepare in advance: a cup of (or two big tablespoons) of sodium bicarbonate (the kitchen stuff: baking powder, cleaner, stomach cure) , a cup of vinegar (preferably quite warm, works faster)
Then pour the bicarbonate in the clogged drain. It's a powder, but a paper shaft will help to make it "decend"
Pour the (hot) vinegar immediately after it: this will make a foam, but won't stink too much, and the chemical reaction of the mixture + the pressure and heat sometimes work wonderdfyully.
If it doesn't work: wait a while, untill it has "drained"
I didn't do a "totally clogged" pipe yet. There the "wait for it to empty itself" wouldn't work. Plumbers come with some "snake" thing attached to an electric drill. Not my cuppa tea, but it works. |
