We have, between Federal and State programs, some kind of safety net to help people - I know, we (my family) was supported by it for about 1 year when I lost my job in IT, and couldn't find anything. I worked whatever odd jobs I could find, but our food was provided by benefits from the state, as well as rent assistance, etc.
It sounds to me like you would like to see an enlarged safety net, but I think its PLENTY large enough already. I am happily employed (for the last 2 years, now) and helping to pay for that net so that others can be caught by it, and pick themselves up.
What I resent is those who LIVE off that net year in and year out making no real effort to change their situation. |
