only the entries in its playlists.

I don't like iTunes because I don't really like the iPod and the culture of wastage and consumption which surrounds it. A non-replaceable battery pack is a big killer for any MP3 player I might want to buy, and when apple gave up replacing batteries and just threw out the old units and handed out new ones for 50 bucks etc. That and iTunes is a potential porthole for corporate spyware (they support DRM and given the anti-trust behaviour in iTunes-purchased music it's only a matter of time IMO.) and I don't like the idea of any conglomerate watching what's going on, on my machine.
