It has been noted elsewhere that people who have global incompetence issues themselves are also unable to recognize competence (and, worse, they additionally fail to recognize incompetence) in others. The ability to recognize competence is, itself, a discrete skill. The globally unclueful tend to tack that one along with the rest of the high-cognition functional skills. This explains entirely too much about entirely too many things.
