Only when I'm concentrating very hard do I sometimes not speak, but make a shooing motion with the palm down. If I'm actually making requests like "give" or "take", then I have enough attention for that person to make the request orally. Ditto for the twirling motion: if I'm listening to them, then I'm not working at the same time, and I'll ask them to get to the point of necessary. (Unless it's not important, and they're boring me. Then I might type and browse with half my attention.)
