Whether it's due to synesthesia or some other cause, it's impressive. Not necessarily a "learned" skill, either (I think people can learn relative pitch but not perfect pitch, but I could be wrong). But I can imagine how irritating it can be if someone with perfect pitch had to listen to an out-of-tune piano. (The time when my choir director wanted us to learn a song one semitone higher than on the score, one of the girls totally flipped out because she had perfect pitch and what she was seeing on the score didn't match what we were singing.)
