Driving LEDs (Attn: Electronics Geeks) by MrTrick2007-06-03 19:31:26
I could be completely wrong here, but by sgrunt2007-06-03 19:35:26

Well, I can see a couple of other possibilities. by sgrunt 2007-06-03 20:01:56
The least elegant would be to wire up one of those circuits for each of the LEDs and have the micro turn the power source on or off for them.

A slightly trickier method would be to have the micro control connections to the LEDs directly - and have a bank of three inductors, exactly one of which will be on depending on how many LEDs are on (the zero-LED case would require a more creative approach). I'd have to think a little more carefully about that, as I'm not sure the PIC would have enough pins to be able to control all of that, but with enough collective sneakiness we should be able to think of something. :P
