Took me about ten minutes to write my first reply, but this got me thinking.
Are then any strings attached as to how she passes classes? If yes (like going to a higher or lower "system" of schooling) then you are right. If no, you are wrong.
At school at that age, if you pass you are doing good enough. You might have done better, but if there is no real reason, why should you? Because the grades look better when shown to grandma?
Maybe the kid is indeed bored and does nothing and passes nonetheless. Give her credit for doing so, give her credit for maintaining a social life and warn her for the consequences when she does *not* pass. Most of all: provide challenge when needed.
Now, when there is a difference between passing with an A and a C in terms of "schooling career", then this whole post is obsolete.
It didn't do me any good that my dad was kinda pushing me to get good grades, just because of the grades. In retrospect, that caused me to choose the wrong study and failing that because there was no drive. When that happens, your kid is left with nothing at all.
YMMV, and I might be a bit frustrated. |
