standard protocol for first contact. But, going with your premise, I'd find out if the signals are coming from inhabitants or other visitors. I would not try to land right away. And I'd be trying to jury-rig some defensive weapons, in case the inhabitants have missiles that can knock my ship out of the sky. Hopefully, the ship we're on has enough provisions for a sustained wait in orbit. I wouldn't attempt to land until communications has been established in some manner.
